Spring 2021 Move-Out

All residential communities close on May 20, 2021 at 8PM. Students are expected to vacate 24 hours after their last exam, or by the closing deadline, whichever comes first.

Additionally, we are encouraging residents to consider moving out early, if possible, to help limit the spread of COVID-19. While students are not required to vacate early, if this is something you would like to consider please make sure you are following the below instructions:

Checkout Procedures

You may schedule a check-out time with your RA or complete an Express Checkout in order to avoid a $50 improper checkout charge.  These are your two options:

OPTION 1: Express Check-out: This is the fastest and easiest way to check out of your room. After all of your personal items are removed from your room, complete the Express Check-out Form online and then come to your community desk to have your UMBC ID deactivated. Residential Life will inspect your room at a later time for potential damages and/or cleaning charges.

OPTION 2 : Traditional Check-out with an RA: This option is for residents who would prefer to be present while a RA completes the check-out inspection and/or who know they have caused damage to their room. RAs conducting check-outs will inform residents of potential cleaning or damage charges at the appointment.  Students interested in formally checking out with an RA should schedule a check-out appointment with a staff member.  This appointment should be scheduled at least 48 hours prior to departing.  If you choose this option, you will need to click the link below to sign up with your resident assistant. SIGN UP FOR A TRADITIONAL CHECK-OUT APPOINTMENT IN YOUR COMMUNITY.

Prior to checking out, you should:

  • Remove all personal items.
  • Clean your bathroom and personal spaces well.
  • Clean your appliances, if applicable, and dispose of perishable items.
  • Remove and dispose of all trash in a trash room or a dumpster. Please take large items and bulk trash to dumpsters placed near your community.
  • If you rented a microfridge, defrost, unplug, and prop microfridge doors open.
  • Set the thermostat between 70-72 (A/C) degrees.
  • Turn off water.
  • Turn off lights and bathroom exhaust fans.
  • Close and lock all windows and doors.
  • Close blinds on ground floor rooms; leave blinds up on all other floors.
  • Report any facilities related issues to FXIT prior to check out

Failure to remove all items and vacate by the deadline may result in student conduct action and/or an Improper Checkout Fee.

Compliance Expectations Through to Move-Out

Residents moving out at the end of the Spring 2021 Term (through May 20, 2021):

  • Symptom tracking: continue tracking every day until move-out
  • Testing: continue testing protocol until move-out

Residents with annual licenses (Walker Avenue only) or who are beginning a new license or intending to request a  license for the Summer 2021 Term:

  • Students must continue symptom tracking 7 days per week, and testing twice per week.

Important: A COVID-19 vaccination does not exempt UMBC community members who are approved to live, work, or take classes on campus from adhering to all COVID-19 health and safety expectations. You may review these expectations here.
